City of Hitchcock: ARPA WWTP Headworks Improvements

Project Description

The City of Hitchcock Wastewater Treatment Plant had an existing manual bar screen that was insufficient for trapping rags and other solids that continue through the system, causing operational inefficiencies and reducing the lifespan of pumps and other plant equipment. SPI’s project scope included design, preparation of contract documents and specifications, bid and construction phase services for a new mechanical bar screen to be installed in a new channel. The height and width of the new channel was sized calculated in order to meet hydraulic design of the influent pipe and existing lift station. A junction box was then designed with gates to divert influent flow to the new channel. The base flood elevation had to be considered to set the height of the new channel walls and set an overflow weir to the existing channel. A raised platform with stair access was designed to set the equipment and controls. A course bar screen was specified with a washer compactor to collect the debris in a dumpster alongside the channel. Final design was completed in September 2024.
